1 テサロニケ 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
1テサロニケ5:1兄弟たち。それらがいつなのか、またどういう時かについては、あなたがたは私たちに書いてもらう必要がありません。
1Th. 5:1 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you,
2主の日が夜中の盗人のように来るということは、あなたがた自身がよく承知しているからです。
2for you know very well that the day of the Lordawill come like a thief in the night.
3人々が「平和だ。安全だ」と言っているそのようなときに、突如として滅びが彼らに襲いかかります。ちょうど妊婦に産みの苦しみが臨むようなもので、それをのがれることは決してできません。
3While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4しかし、兄弟たち。あなたがたは暗やみの中にはいないのですから、その日が、盗人のようにあなたがたを襲うことはありません。
4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darknessaso that this day should surprise you like a thief.
5あなたがたはみな、光の子ども、昼の子どもだからです。私たちは、夜や暗やみの者ではありません。
5You are all children of the lightaand children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
6ですから、ほかの人々のように眠っていないで、目をさまして、慎み深くしていましょう。
6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
7眠る者は夜眠り、酔う者は夜酔うからです。
7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
8しかし、私たちは昼の者なので、信仰と愛を胸当てとして着け、救いの望みをかぶととしてかぶって、慎み深くしていましょう。
8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
9神は、私たちが御怒りに会うようにお定めになったのではなく、主イエス・キリストにあって救いを得るようにお定めになったからです。
9For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
10主が私たちのために死んでくださったのは、私たちが、目ざめていても、眠っていても、主とともに生きるためです。
10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
11ですから、あなたがたは、今しているとおり、互いに励まし合い、互いに徳を高め合いなさい。
11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
